The Living Rivers Seminar creates an ‘ethical space’ for engagement between Indigenous and non-Indigenous allies, fostering conversation, relationship-building, learning, and inspiring action for the health and future of the Colorado River Basin. Creating ‘ethical space’ allows for authentic intercultural exchange and opens doors to learning and reconciliation. Building on the relationships and conversations that emerged from A Meeting of Sacred Waters 2026, the gathering will center Indigenous perspectives on the relationships among people, water, land, and community, and explore the systems change that can emerge when Indigenous knowledge and leadership guide decisions about water and land.
This in-person gathering, hosted in partnership between the Indigenous Resilience Center and the Restoring Balance Collaborative, will include:
- A panel discussion amongst leaders and stewards of the Colorado River Basin, including Chairwoman Amelia Flores, Amanda Cheromiah, and a third panelist (TBA), moderated by Dr. Karletta Chief.
- The award-winning documentary, From the Mountains to the Sea
- A guided activity to support attendees with moving from gathering to action.
This gathering is supported by the Agnese Nelms Haury Program.
